Obituary of Michael Gay Prisco

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael was born on July 23, 1948, at St. Francis Hospital in Bronx, New York to Yvette Prisco and Albert Francisco Prisco, and he passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017.

He is survived by his wife Leslie Prisco; his mother Yvette Prisco; his children, Albert, Gabriel, Johnathan, and Gina; and his grandchildren, Anthoné, Victoria, Dominic, Zoe, and Melissa.

Michael attended elementary school at Our Lady of Sorrow and received a full scholarship to Marti Christie High School. Afterwards, he served in the United States Army in 1969. Michael moved to Houston shortly after, in 1975, where he began working in the salvage business. He continued in that business until 1999, when he founded Merlo’s Limousines and Charters where he served as President, leader, and mentor to many people.

Michael met his wife, Leslie, in 1995 and could not wait much longer to make her his beautiful bride in 1996. He loved going to visit Guatemala to work with the underprivileged children where, together with his wife, he founded a non-profit organization, Gran Futuro. This organization provided the opportunity for many children to attend school, build homes, and have access to medical and nutritional programs. Michael was a great leader, son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and overall a very generous person. He was someone who would help anyone and everyone at any time. Michael will be missed by so many. His only hobbies were to work on his motor coaches, watch his Houston Texans, talk football with his boys, and work, work, work. He was living proof that hard work, focus, and dedication can bring good things to you and the ones you love. In that sense, he was, and always will be, the greatest teacher in life. When asked, “What’s going on?” he would answer you then as he would today, “Hey, it’s just another day in paradise.”

A funeral service in his honor will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 4300 North Shepherd Dr., in Houston, Texas. Michael will be laid to rest in Guatemala City at a later date.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Gabriel Merlo, Johnathan Delgado, Anthone Melendez, and Johanny Diaz. Please join the family for a reception immediately following the service.

Charitable contributions and donations in Michael’s name may be made to St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas.
