Obituary of Robert Joseph Costa
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert "Bob" Joseph Costa, born on April 16, 1932 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to George Walter Costa and Agnes Kiley Costa, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, June 8, 2015, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Bob was preceded in death by his siblings George Costa and Carole Costa.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Campbell Costa and his younger sibling, David Costa of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
He is also survived by his five children, Lauren Granberry, married to Dr. William Granberry of Houston, Robert Costa, Jr. of Houston, Adam Costa and his wife Chanta of Austin, Justin Costa and his wife Marta of Dallas and Christian Costa and his wife, Leilani of Houston.
Bob was blessed with fourteen grandchildren, Sarah, Noelle, Benjamin and Matthew Granberry of Houston, Ally, AJ and Sean Costa of Austin, Alexandria Pena, Michael, Joshua, Madeline and Daniel Costa of Dallas, and Abigail and Elisabeth Costa of Houston.
Bob served honorably in the 34th infantry regiment/24th infantry division during the Korean War. After the war, he worked in sales as a manufacturer's representative in first Boston, Massachusetts and then Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His career continued in Houston, Texas in 1996 when Mary and Bob moved there to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
For those who knew Bob, he loved sports, played ice hockey and baseball in his youth and was always ready for a round of golf. He loved his family, time at home, the New York Yankees and the family dog. Bob was a guy's guy and a charmer who never met a stranger. He loved to hear a good story nearly as much as he loved to tell one over a cup of coffee.
His family wishes to convey their sincere thanks and gratitude to the oncology staff Kelsey Seybold Clinic, and the cardiology department at St. Luke's. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff at Houston Hospice for their care and support, especially his nurses, Paige and Dora.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway in Houston, Texas. A reception will be held directly after the service in the Monsignor Jamail Parish Family Center.
Pallbearers include Bob's four sons.
The Rite of Committal will take place at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors.
