Ardelis Russell Morley, age 85, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully Friday, September 9, 2022 with her family by her side. Ardelis was born May 26, 1937 in Houston, Texas to the late Rosa May (King) Russell Lundelius and James Arden Russell.
Ardelis leaves behind her son, Arden Morley; her daughter, Karen Morley (Greg) Peabody; her grandchildren, Luke, Hannah, and Grace Morley; Madeline and Jackson Ratcliff; and great-grandson, Brayden Morley.
Ardelis grew up in West University in Houston and graduated in 1955 from Mirabeau B. Lamar High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma women’s fraternity, and a Summa Cum Laude academic. She finished her degree with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Houston in 1959. She followed in her mother’s footsteps and began a teaching career in the city of Houston.
Ardelis took up tennis as an adult. For years, she played regularly at Sugar Creek Country Club where she made several lifelong friends. She studied oil painting and became quite an accomplished artist. In addition to painting, she was given the rare gift of being able to play the piano by ear. Ardelis also enjoyed working out at the neighborhood athletic gym several times a week. Ardelis had a passion for traveling and took many national and international trips with friends. A few of her favorite destinations included Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, Budapest, Hong Kong, France, and Norway.
In spite of being healthy and active, Ardelis was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2010. The family is so grateful for the loving and compassionate care she received both at home and most recently from Barton House in Sugar Land, Texas.
A graveside service will be Monday, September 19, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Barton House, 2229 Williams Trace Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77478, or the charity of your choice.
