Obituary of Dani Cordova

Please share a memory of Dani to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gloria "Dani" (Chapman) Cordova,  wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2024 at the age of 75. She was born in Lufkin on August 21, 1948 to William Devereux and Jean Chapman who preceded her in death.

Dani grew up in Lufkin and Galveston as the oldest of three sisters. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of ten at First Baptist Church of Galveston. She divided her time between church activities and the beach. After graduating from Galveston Ball High School she attended Stephen F. Austin State University, majoring in art.

Dani met her future husband soon thereafter, marrying Scott in 1970. Most of their 53 years of marriage were spent in Houston, with a brief time in San Francisco.

She adored her family and chatting for hours on the phone with her sisters and friends. She was devoted to serving others in her community and church through volunteering at Star of Hope Mission, praying with Hurricane Katrina victims, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, serving on multiple church committees, served as coordinator for Motherwise a young mothers ministry, and lent her interior design skills to decorating the church for special events.

Dani created beautiful artwork that included watercolors, pen and ink, clothing, invitations and personalized items. Her artistic talent was on display through interior design, weddings, floral arrangements, gardening and gourmet cooking.

Dani is survived by her loving husband Scott Cordova; her children, Ashlee Lyons (Jeff) of Round Top; Blake Cordova (Jessica) of The Woodlands ; grandchildren Ava, Vivienne and Sawyer Cordova and Adalynn Lyons; sisters, Debbie Rogers (Patrick) of Austin; Barbara Baxter (Brian) of Norris, Tennessee; Uncle Tom McKinney (Colleen) of Spring; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Gloria "Dani" Cordova will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas.  All are invited to a reception with the family immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Houston's First Baptist Church or Star of Hope Mission.
