William "Bill" Abbott, 76, of Houston, Texas, passed away on December 4, 2024, after a short illness. He was born on August 24, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Ira R. Abbott, Jr. and Mary Ely Abbott. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his older brothers, Robert E. H. Savage and Ira R. Abbott, III.

Bill is survived by his sisters-in-law, Terrie Savage and Sharon Abbott, nieces Kristin (John) Rosan, Andrea (Joe) Carter, and Shannon (Wade) Callison, nephew Kevin Abbott, many great nieces and nephews, and his beloved Carin Terrier, Mickey.

Bill graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He then worked for the Foxboro Company and, later, for General Electric.

Bill served his country in the Army National Guard of Texas, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Coast Guard. In his retirement, Bill could be seen with friends in Texas' dance halls, walking around his neighborhood with Mickey, and watching football.

Bill was best known for his blunt talk, financial prudence, and a pronounced sense of humor. He called it as he saw it. He had an opinion on everything and had a way of chiding you with a smile on his face, leaving you wondering if he was serious or joking. He loved his friends and family greatly but is best remembered for his love of Mickey and his predeceased canine children, Peek-a-Boo and Elkie.

An inurnment service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
