Gene and I were friends at Lamar and Rice but we met earlier, as members of the starting 5 on the 14-and-under State Championship basketball team at South Main Baptist Church. I was a 5'11" board-crashing forward and Gene was a slick ball handler and deadly outside shot. Later, I ran track and played football at Lamar, but that South Main team was the peak of my athletic "glory". Sic transit gloria mundi.
RIP, Gene!

Joyce, Laura and Stacie - just wanted to say we're thinking of Gene and want to express our condolences. When I read the tribute I remember so many good times we had. Always lots of laughs - and a little mischief along the way. Joyce and Virginia there to guide us bit and keep us on the pavement. Thanks Gene for all the fun you brought into our lives. Rest in peace.

Gene was the founding father of Corvair Houston, a fun family club which remains happily ongoing after 50 years.
His professionalism and follow-through were always evident in the first 20 years as he helped build the leadership team and find meeting locations.
I always enjoyed trading jabs between that lawyer and this engineer-businessman.
Warmest wishes and many blessings, Gene.

Fond memories of Gene. We met 50 plus years ago. A group of us with a fondness for the Chevrolet Corvair came together to establish a club. Gene's talents in organizing helped put together a club that lasted half a century. In addition, his earlier work history at Chevrolet, and good humor, added many comical stories!
He and Joyce were an important and fun part of so many thoughtful and kind people. He will be missed.
Thanks for the ride, Gene.
