Obituary of Linda Sue Graviss

Please share a memory of Linda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Linda Sue Morris Graviss passed into the arms of our Lord on Saturday May 13, 2023.

Linda was born on January 30, 1961, the second of five children, to Mabel “Dolly” Morris and Glen Edward Morris. As a youth, growing up on a farm in French Lick, Linda excelled both as a track star and FFA participant. In 1979 she graduated from French Lick High School. She then earned a Medical Laboratory Technician certification (ASCP) in 1981, and Medical Technologist (ASCP) degree in 1985 along with her Bachelors of Science, all from Indiana State University (ISU).

Following her graduation from ISU, Linda moved to San Antonio where she took a job in the Pathology Department at Methodist Hospital, San Antonio.  It was there that she met a young bacteriologist, Edward Graviss, who would later become her husband.   In 1988 she married Ed, and moved to Houston, Texas where she worked for 10 years as a Laboratory Technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital. In 1998, she joined the MD Anderson Cancer Center family where she would remain for the next 25 years, rising to the level of Director of Infection Control in 2019.

During her work career she raised three children, Sarah, Katie, and Daniel.  She was actively involved in her churches (Sacred Heart in Manvel and St. Laurence in Sugar Land) and many of her children’s school organizations. She was an active member in the Association of Professional in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and the Hey Lollies Square Dance Club. Linda had an infectious smile that lit up the room and huge heart. She loved nature and traveling to Indiana to visit her family and to see the fall leaves in all their glory. She was known by her family as the “baby whisperer” because of the immediate bond she had with every baby she held. She so loved family, swimming in her pool with friends and family, and her Astros. Linda taught us all how to live life to its fullest.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years Dr. Edward Graviss; Children – Sarah Graviss, Katherine Graviss, and Daniel Graviss; her mother, Dolly Morris; sisters- Denise (John) Ollestad, Valerie (Paul) Hensley, Karen (Tony) Kastigar, and her brother, Michael (Jill) Morris, and her sisters-in-laws, Marilou (David) Welp, Ginny (Jim) Boehm, Helen (Phil) Tschoepe, and brothers-in-law, Dennis (Laura) Graviss, Larry (Maureen) Graviss, Tom (Leigh) Graviss, and Richard Macha. In addition to numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, she had many wonderful friends.

A visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by the celebration of Mass at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, May 22, 2023 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Boulevard in Sugar Land, Texas.  A reception will follow the Mass in the Church Hall.
