Obituary of Stephen Dion Lawrence

Stephen Dion Lawrence, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, born July 15, 1938, in Lufkin, Texas, to James Elton Lawrence and Daisy Jewell (Blalock) Lawrence, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, in Benbrook, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his sisters Janice Patterson and Linda Powell.

Stephen is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 51 years; son Stephen Jr. and wife Katie and their children Evan, Jacqueline and Olivia of Benbrook; son Norman and wife Emily and his daughter Claire of Lakeway; daughter Lianna Kay Mills and husband Eric and their children Lianna Kay, Jr, Madison, and Oliver of Austin; daughter Toni Marie Svrcek and husband Jamie, her children Ila Jane and Calloway of Smithville; brother Harold and his wife Kate of Conroe; twin brother Norman and his wife Nelda of Arp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stephen thoroughly enjoyed going to Houston Astros games, sitting lakeside after fishing or a boat ride, regular golf outings, hunting trips in South Texas, winning numerous 1st place trophies at Impalafest, and simply sitting on the back deck listening to his favorite country music. He maintained his sense of humor and good outlook until the very end. Above all else, he loved being around his family, both blood and in-laws, and is greatly missed.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road, Houston.  A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Wayne W. Wilkerson, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, also at St. Michael’s. The Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 8022 Airline Drive,  in Houston, Texas.
