Dear Daniel, David-&-Kimmy and Charles-&-Martha, Family and Friends of Dr. Grady:
I was saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Grady on January 13 2017. My brother-in-law had a mitral valve replaced at the University of Texas. I'm sure Dr. Grady's work contributed to his (and many others') recovery.
May I share some verses from the Bible that bring continuing comfort when we suffer loss?
First, it was never our Creator's purpose that anyone should die, ever! When He put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, they had the prospect of endless life, in ageless bodies, in perfect health, on a perfect Earth (Genesis 1:28). Adam and Eve could have passed that life on to us, but they sinned and lost everything for themselves ... and us. (Romans 5:12)
Next, it comforted me and softened my feelings toward Jehovah God to learn that it is Satan who causes aging, sicknesses like cancer, and death--not God (Hebrews 2:14).
Finally, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are our guarantees that this Earth will yet be a peaceful, global paradise and that Dr. Grady (and countless millions including Martha and Bryan) will be resurrected to enjoy it! Remember Jesus' words at John 5:28-29a and John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life," and "all those in the memorial tombs ... will be resurrected." Until then Dr. Grady, Rest In Peace.
May you have comfort and peace from these promises until the day when you can be reunited with a young (Job 33:25) and healthy (Isaiah 33:24) Dr. Grady. Then, he can play music and quip with friends and family as a replacement profession because ... after the resurrections, no one on Earth will ever be sick again.
Again my deepest sympathy
Harolyne Grant

Dear cousins, I extend my deepest sympathy for the loss of your parents. The loss of Grady and Martha is heart breaking. I use to telephone Martha at the ranch on Saturdays and we enjoyed each others conversations. The McVicker families loved both of them very much. We admired Grady for his brilliant mind concerning his field of cardiology and his music. He gave a solo with Martha accompany him for us at their home some years ago. We loved their music. We felt so honored to get to hear them play for us. Grady was a super hero inasmuch he saved so many lives as a surgeon.
Your loving cousin Sue,

Dr. Hallman gave us our third son. He was born with transposition of the great arteries. Your father operated on him twice. In 1984 he did a Mustard procedure, and in 1986 he did a repair on it. Although he has needed a pacemaker since he was four, he has led a pretty normal life. He is a graduate of SAM, married and has two children who have no heart problems. He gave us our first granddaughter, after four boys. Thank-you for sharing your father with us and with the world. He will be missed.

To Dr. Hallman's family, thank you for sharing this wonderful and talented man with the rest of the world. I worked with your dad, grandfather for 40 years. From day 1 he was always a gentleman and was always, always, willing to teach. I have very fond memories of making rounds with him and also our discussions about music. He will definitely be missed. A true Texas gentleman and very gifted physician. Rest In Peace Dr. Hallman!

Dear Mrs. Hallman,
I am so sad to have learned the Grady passed away..He was a true gentleman -- a gentle man and a friend to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him. As you may remember, I came to know Grady well through two of the many organizations that he so greatly helped -- the Doctors Orchestra and Houston Friends of Music.
In the orchestra, he was a stalwart member of the brass section , and I still remember his beautiful rendition of the well-known aria that played as a soloist with us. He was an inspiration to me as well as to the other orchestra members, most of whom were, at the time, less than one-third of our age. For the Houston Friends of Music, you and he, by your generosity, created a tradition of brass concerts that we have continued to the present day.
So Grady lives on in our memories as a true gentleman and friend, as well as in the legacy he left for us in Houston who love the arts. I do not expect to meet another like him in my lifetime.
Please accept my personal condolences and those of the two organizations that I represent, the Texas Medical Center Orchestra (formerly the Doctors Orchestra of Houston) and Chamber Music Houston (formerly Houston Friends of Music).
Sincerely,
Daniel Musher

I was saddened to learn about Grady's passing.
Our friendship began in Tyler when Grady and I were about five years old, attending play school. We were very close friends during our Tyler public school days.
Grady served as Best Man when my late wife Margaret & I were married on June 26, 1951. He asked me to participate in his and Martha's wedding. I was unable to, due to the upcoming birth of our son here in Tyler around their wedding date.
We looked forward to many visits with Grady, Martha, Daniel, David, and Charles visiting in our home, usually at Christmas-time on their visits to Tyler. The sons were much younger then.
Grady and Martha attended a number of Fire Musters in downtown Houston at the old Fire Station 6 Museum to visit with Margaret and I; where I served as a judge, awarding trophies on antique fire engines.
Grady's thing was horns, mine old fire engines.
I will miss a very good friend.

I remember Dr. Hallman very well from the Heartbeat days. When the band recorded "Classical Gas," I went to watch and there was Dad (Warren Jacobs) and Dr. Hallman playing away. And they were having fun. I still have a copy of both albums.
I also remember one Christmas Dad organized a musical get together on our street with Dr. Hallman. There they played Christmas music for all to enjoy.
My Dad thought the world of his medical abilities as well and often commented on what a fine doctor he was. This town has sure lost some good one the last few years.
Please accept my deepest condolences.

So sorry for your loss. I was fortunate in that I never needed to know Grady professionally but spent a few years in the Houston Concert Band and Gulf Coast Concert Band and attended a few of the Brass Quintet concerts at Friends of Music. We all knew Grady as the Patron Saint of Low Brass and he will be sorely missed.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I've never met such a kind and generous person. So many will feel his absence. I thought of him recently when I heard "O Mio Babbino Caro", a piece he played as a solo.

My most heart felt condolences to all of the Hallman family. I was privileged to know Grady for some forty years. I first met Grady playing with the Pasadena Municipal Band. It was through the gift of music that my wife and I got to know Martha Grady, traveling to Europe with them with the American Winds Concert Band, numerous concerts with the band, performances with all of the great brass quintets sponsored by Grady through the Friends of Music and the Labor Day Sousa Memorial parties held out at the ranch.
It was through Grady that I met and studied with my trombone teacher, Mr. Albert Lube of the Houston Symphony fulfilling a life long wish to study that instrument completely. We traveled to Keystone, Colorado where Grady and myself participated with the Summit Brass, yet another incredible music ensemble sponsored by Grady. He was and will continue to be a incredible contributor in the music field. Grady never ceased to amaze me with his solos on euphonium with all of the bands we played with.
We played trombone quartets every summer at either his home or mine for over twenty years. One of the pieces of music we particularly enjoyed playing was an arrangement of "Achieved Is The Glorius Work" by Franz Joseph Haydn from the The Creation. I can think of nothing more fitting than that title to sum up my friend, Dr. Grady L. Hallman.
