Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pat Sloan, born January 21st, 1953 in Brownsville, Texas, passed away on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 after a short battle with cancer.
Pat grew up in Deer Park, Texas, and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1971. He graduated from the Columbia School of Broadcasting with hopes of becoming a radio DJ. Instead, he found his true passion in the night club business as a Disco DJ. His first DJ job was at Uncle Sam’s in Pasadena, Texas, where he met his future wife Kimberley Owens, with whom he faithfully spent the next forty wonderful years. Following his wedding to Kim in 1979, they had two award-winning, beautiful children. Coley Marie was born in November of 1981, followed by Patrick Winter in June of 1985. They celebrated many fun years to follow, living in the Alief, Sugar Land, and Meadows Place areas outside of Houston. He continued his DJ career, working in popular night clubs such as Confetti, Todd’s, Quincy’s in the Adam’s Mark Hotel, Blister’s in Galveston, Windows, Raizzins, Park Avenue, and more. Following the introduction of the Compact Disc, Pat decided he preferred vinyl, and switched careers. He began working as a photo lab technician at Aerial Viewpoint in Spring, Texas, with his brother-in-law, Grady Owens. Technology struck again 17 years later, when digital photography replaced his craft in the dark room. He again returned to music and writing, his lifelong passion, and rediscovered his songwriting skills when September 11th, 2001, inspired him to write America Stands. His passion for writing had been rekindled, and he began writing country songs. Nashville still shops his songs today. Overall, Pat loved his family, his friends, the beach, and of course, Houston sports. He was a die-hard Houston Oiler fan, Texans fan, Rockets fan, and Astros fan, win or lose. He dreamed of living in Florida, where he could search for shark teeth, fossils, shells, and fun rocks.
Pat was preceded in death by his father Frank Sloan and mother Mary Melvina Sloan.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years Kimberley Owens Sloan; daughter Coley Marie Sloan Jones; son Patrick Winter Sloan, daughter-in-law Heather Sloan, and grandson Elliott Jameson Sloan of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Beckham; his brother Frank Sloan, and wife Kathy of Pearland, Texas. He had several nieces and nephews, including Robert Beckham, Alyssa Beckham, Nathan Beckham, Gwendolyn Beckham, George Beckham, Tasha Beckham, Garth Sloan, and Frank Sloan, Jr. He also had several grand nieces and nephews. He was also very close to Kim’s side of the family, especially his mother-in-law Charlotte Reynolds, and her siblings David Owens, Grady Owens, and Tracy Owens.
