Annakutty John Kunthara (Ammachi) was born on June 9, 1929, in Yogiaveed family of Muhamma, Kerala, India. She married K.V. John on November 15, 1948. She was blessed with 10 children, 2 of whom passed on shortly after their birth. Her remaining children are: B. John, Joseph, Jacob, Sherly, Lissy, Tom, Merly and Hendry. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ammachi traveled back and forth between Kerala, India and the United States. Her first visit to the States was on a permanent resident visa in 1985. She became a U.S. citizen in 1990. Ammachi truly lived Christ’s message to love one another, and she was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary. She was always willing to help others. For example, when going to someone’s house, her first stop was the kitchen to help wash dishes, cook, or provide any type of service. Annakutty struggled with pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart failure in the last year of her life. She had a peaceful ending surrounded by many loved ones. She was received in Heaven on March 7, 2017. A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2017, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 12, 2017. Both services will take place at St. Joseph Syro Malabar Catholic Church, 211 Present St., in Missouri City, Texas. The Rite of Committal will follow at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd., in Houston, Texas.
