I read about John's death today in the Penn Stater. I met John at PSU and worked with him on our student research project the summer of 1976, both of us renting rooms at Triangle fraternity (along with his brother Charlie). John was a pleasure to be around. He had a great (and sometimes goofy) sense of humor, was an excellent researcher, and a fine guitar player. My condolences to John's family; I am sure he will be missed.

Dear Audrey, John-&-Nicole, MaryCarmen, Christian, Daniel-&-Rachel, and Tara-&-Ben, other Family and Friends of Dr. John:
I was saddened to learn of the death of Dr. John this April 2017. One of my dear friends is in remission from cancer thanks to the Queens Medical Center here in Hawaii, which is in association with MD Anderson Center in Texas, where she had made many trips. I'm sure Dr. John's work contributed to her (and many others') recovery.
May I share some verses from the Bible that bring continuing comfort when we suffer loss?
First, it was never our Creator's purpose that anyone should die, ever! When He put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, they had the prospect of endless life, in ageless bodies, in perfect health, on a perfect Earth (Genesis 1:28). Adam and Eve could have passed that life on to us, but they sinned and lost everything for themselves ... and us. (Romans 5:12)
Next, it comforted me and softened my feelings toward Jehovah God to learn that it is Satan who causes aging, sicknesses like cancer, and death--not God (Hebrews 2:14).
Finally, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are our guarantees that this Earth will yet be a peaceful, global paradise and that Dr. John (and countless millions including Donna, Clarence and Jane) will be resurrected to enjoy it! Remember Jesus' words at John 5:28-29a and John 11:25: "I am the resurrection and the life," and "all those in the memorial tombs ... will be resurrected." Until then Dr. John, Rest In Peace.
May you have comfort and peace from these promises until the day when you can be reunited with a young (Job 33:25) and healthy (Isaiah 33:24) Dr. John. Then, he can play music and quip with friends and family as a replacement profession because ... no one on Earth will ever be sick again.
With deepest sympathy and genuine respect,
Harolyne Grant

My beautiful brother-in-law John gave us all so many laughs with his hysterical puns, and warm smiles with his delightful music. It's just unimaginable that he's not with us. We will miss him terribly, but know he will live on in our hearts and minds, as well as through the great research he led for the improvement mankind's health.
