Obituary of Agnes Lucille Bennett
Agnes Bennett passed away on Friday evening, May 5, 2017. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Steve Gartrell of Houston, daughter-in-law and husband, Lisa and Rod Robinson of North Zulch, and three grandchildren, Barron Bennett, Kate Gartrell and Shanell Robinson. Her beloved husband of fifty-three years, Earl, and son, David preceded her in death.
Agnes was born in Bossier City, LA on February 6, 1926 to Lucille Chandler and Almer Davis Evans. After high school she began working as a bookkeeper and took accounting courses at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. After acquiring enough hours to sit for the CPA she passed all parts the first time she took the exam, becoming the first female CPA in the state of Louisiana. She graduated from the University of Texas with a BBA in Accounting in 1968. She began her second career with Durst, Wood & Ingram (now Ingram, Wallis & Co.) in Bryan, TX in 1971 and continued to work for them doing Estate Planning and Trust work until 1999.
The light of her grateful, grace-filled spirit enveloped all she met, even more incredibly so as her memory and health ebbed and laid bare the essence of her sweet soul. She touched more hearts in her eighties and nineties than most do in a lifetime.
The family would like to extend grateful thanks to Marilyn Ellis for the loving and compassionate care she provided and to the staff at Silverado Memory Care in Sugar Land.
We will celebrate Agnes’ life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston. A graveside service and burial will follow at the Memorial Cemetery in College Station at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
