Mary L. Hirscher, age 72, born September 7, 1942 in Shakopee, Minnesota to Herbert and Viola Plekkenpol, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Viola Plekkenpol; and brothers, Donald and George Plekkenpol.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Herbert C. Hirscher; daughters, Debbie Johnson and husband Jesse, Linda Garrett and husband Robert, Mary Claire Ruszkiewicz and husband Jim; grandchildren, Bryan Calvert, Lindsay Saltus and husband Drew Saltus, Christian Garrett and fiancé Morgan Wilkenson, Zachary Garrett, Brian, Devin and Jesse Brannigan, Josh, Chris and Rose Mary Ruszkiewicz and great-grandchildren, Zander and Amarah Brannigan; and her latest great-grandchild expected to arrive in January, Bonnie Saltus; brother Jim and wife June Plekkenpol as well as other members of the extended family.
Mary was an active member of the community volunteering for numerous social causes including, but not limited to, the MS 150, the Springwoods Neighborhood Civic Association, the Springwoods Neighborhood Crime Watch, and C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team).
She was also an avid Clay Road YMCA member with a mean pickle ball game, which she was very proud of. Mary's knitting club made hats for cancer patients and she was a long standing member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
A viewing and visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection, celebrated by Rev. Niall Nolan, at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Drive in Houston, Texas.
The Rite of Committal will follow at Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
Honored to serve as Pallbearers are her grandsons, Bryan, Christian, Zachary, Brian, Devin and Jesse.
