Obituary of Louise Rekieta Stoever

Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Louise Rekieta Stoever, entered into eternal life on Thursday, September 21, 2017 in Houston, Texas. She was born to Steve and Edna Rekieta in Bremond Texas on November 1, 1922.  She was their third child and third daughter.  She had two older sisters: Mary Rekieta and Frances Rekieta Mileski and three younger brothers: Pete, Paul and Floyd.

Louise married Elvin L. “Smokey” Stoever on July 5, 1947.  Their marriage was blessed with six children: Bernice Holland, Kathy Bronikowski (husband Bennie), Theresa Burkett, Linda Fain, John Stoever (wife Donna) and Pat Stoever.

Louise was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, St. Charles Altar Society, Sons of Hermann Edelweiss Lodge #4, SPJST Lodge 88 and Catholic Daughters of America Court Christ the King #1750.  She was also a supporter of the Knights of Columbus through her husband who was very active in Council 2917. Louise and Smokey loved to go Polka dancing and even after Smokey’s death, she would continue to go and support dances at SPJST and Council 2917.

Louise loved to play dominoes. She would meet with domino players of Council 2917 on the 1st and 5th Mondays of the month, as well as the Council Senior Days. In searching for caregivers, her children made sure the caregivers knew how to play dominoes. Even while confined in bed at home, Louise continued to play dominoes until she grew too weak.

Louise and Smokey helped raise nine grandchildren while their children went to work. The grandchildren grew up with many fond memories—especially remembering their memo’s cooking.  There was always food. They never left her house hungry.

Louise was a generous and loving person. She was always there for her family—children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her siblings and her friends. She had a great sense of humor and her humor remained to the very end.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law Harold Holland II, her sister Mary, and her brothers Pete and Paul. She is survived by her six children, ten grandchildren: Harold Holland (wife Tammy), Kirk Holland, Chris Bronikowski, Stephen Bronikowski, Jennifer Bronikowski, Derrick Fain, Sarah Fain, Jessica Fain, Ashley Burkett, McCall Saathoff, and four great grandchildren: Nathan Fain, Maddie Fain, Eden Holland and Addison Holland. She is also survived by her sister, Frances Mileski; brother Floyd Rekieta (wife Sandra), and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Ruth Lewis and Pearl Robinson Hardeway, the caregivers, who took great care of Louise.  Because of their care and support, the family was able to keep their mother in her home until her death.
