Obituary of Anthony Davila
Anthony “Tony” Maria Davila Useche, age 77, passed away at home on December 9, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on October 5, 1940 in Caracas, Venezuela, to Berta Margarita Useche Davila and Rafael Roman Davila Delgado.
In 1946, his family moved to Houston, where he attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University in 1965 and a Master’s degree from Universidad Central in Venezuela.
Tony was a responsible and dedicated worker for various oil companies: Creole (Exxon) in Judibana, Venezuela; Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX; British Petroleum in Hawaii, and Valero in Norco, Louisiana.
Tony made many friends throughout his life. He loved sports, especially basketball in high school. Later tennis became his passion and he led a team of senior players in Louisiana that won a national championship. Tony was also a regular participant with seniors at the YMCA in Kenner, Louisiana.
Tony was a successful businessman and very generous in helping others. Most important to him, though, were his faith and his family.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Norma Brown. He is survived by his wife, Mary Murphy Davila, who lovingly cared for him until the end; his three daughters: Natalie Davila and her husband, Michael Klemens, of Chicago, Illinois; Kelly Davila, and Nicolle Davila.
Tony is also survived by four siblings: Marie Gerety, Rev. Rafael R. Davila, MM, Julie de Ybarrondo, and her husband, Henri, all of Houston, and Michael Davila and his wife, Kyle, of Virginia; as well as thirteen nieces and nephews, and several first cousins, particularly Mickey Useche, who was like a brother to him.
Words cannot express the family’s appreciation to all whose care made Tony’s last months filled with love, peace, comfort, and dignity.
A visitation with the family will be held from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday, December 15, 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 16, 2017. All services will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas.
In lieu of flowers his wife and family request that donations be made to St. Thomas High School, Villanova University, or a charity of your choice.
