Maria Nora Ponce, born May 30, 1955 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, in Houston, Texas.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Teodoro Ponce and Emma L. Ponce.
She is survived by her sister, Emma P. Murillo and husband, Pablo; niece, Marlena Lester and husband, Corey; their son, Corey, Jr. of Kapolei, Hawaii; numerous aunts and cousins from Texas, Nevada, Washington, and Mexico; her beloved sister-in-Christ, Martha Miller, and her church community.
Nora was a former nun with the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of the steering committee with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for Persons with Disabilities and a tireless volunteer for justice.
A recitation of the Holy Rosary will be begin at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Both services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1505 Kane Street in Houston, Texas.
