Obituary of Francis Robert Onorato
Francis "Frank" R. Onorato, aged 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Houston Medical Center. He was born on January 29, 1932 in Philadelphia to Guglielmo (William) and Elena (Helen) Onorato along with his twin sister Delores.
After graduating from Yeadon High in 1949, Frank earned his BA in Accounting from Temple University before enlisting in the US Army in July of 1954. He served as a Sergeant for two years during the Korean War and then returned to Temple to complete his Master’s in Business with his GI bill. He worked for Exxon as an Account Services Manager in Towson, MD; Westport, CT; Memphis, TN; and finally Houston, TX. He then worked as a commercial real-estate broker in the greater Houston area.
Frank married Janet Kamer on February 1,1958 in Philadelphia, PA and together they had five children. They were active members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church where Frank served as a eucharistic minister for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Cecilia Council.
Frank was an avid athlete who enjoyed tennis and weekly games of golf with his wife. As a father, he coached youth baseball, basketball, and football teams for his sons. As a son of Philadelphia, he was particularly happy to see the Eagles win the Super Bowl last month. In his youth, he played minor league baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system.
Frank was a pilot for many years, served in the Civil Air Patrol, and enjoyed flying with his family in his Piper Cub on weekends until his health no longer permitted.
Frank is survived by his wife, Jan, five children, Terry, William (Angela), John (Joy), Richard (Candace), and Michael; nineteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The Onorato family will celebrate and remember Frank with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 followed by a memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m., April 5, 2018. Both services will be held at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc in Houston, Texas.
