Albert (Bert) Walter Bally died peacefully, after a short illness, at The Gardens of Bellaire on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 in Houston, TX at the age of 94.

 

Bert was born on April 21, 1925 in Den Hague, The Netherlands to Walter and Wilhelmina Bally and grew up in Indonesia, Italy and Switzerland. He is survived by his three sons Alain Bally, Andre Bally with wife Virginia Bally, and Marcel Bally with wife Jlonka Bally. Three grandchildren, Daniel Bally with wife Christine Bally, Christina Bally-Funk with husband Matt Funk, and Jeremy Bally with wife Kendall Bally, and three great-grandchildren Ava, Julia and Harley.

 

He was an internationally known Geologist/Geophysicist who traveled the entire world. After a distinguished career with Shell Oil he became the Chairman of the Rice University Department of Geology and Geophysics, in Houston, Texas. He worked on various national and international projects until a few weeks before he passed.

 

Bert was an active member in his church so, in lieu of flowers, donations to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church would be appreciated. A service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., August 28th, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (6800 Buffalo Speedway Houston, TX 77025).
