Jerauld Lollar Hill passed away passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015. A memorial service will be held at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard, on Friday, May 29, 2015 at three'clock in the afternoon following a private interment at Glenwood Cemetery. A reception will follow in Sumner's Hall at the church.
"Jerry" was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on March 22, 1931 to Ruth Jerauld and John Henry Lollar, Jr. The Lollar family moved to Houston in 1940. Following her graduation from The Kinkaid School, Jerry attended Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, NY. In 1949, she was presented as a debutante of the season at the historic Saturn Club in Buffalo, NY, the home of her aunt and uncle. She graduated from Bennett in 1951, just months before marrying the love of her life, Raymond Monroe Hill of Houston on September 15, 1951. Together they raised four children and were married for 61 years. Jerry will always be remembered for her warm heart and her beautiful smile.
Jerry was a devoted member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church and loved her Lord and savior. She also belonged to The Garden Club of Houston and The Junior League of Houston. She and Raymond enjoyed social memberships with the Bayou Club, Allegro, and The Paul Jones and loved dancing with each other.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond M. Hill; daughter, Jerauld Hill Goodpasture; and her son, Raymond Monroe Hill, Jr.
She is survived by her two children, Verlinde Hill Doubleday and husband Charles William; and Benjamin Harvey Hill and wife Elisabeth Colby; thirteen grandchildren, Frank Goodpasture, IV and wife Elizabeth, Benjamin Wilton Goodpasture, John Ridley Goodpasture and wife Heather, Ruth Jerauld Goodpasture, Mary McLean Goodpasture, George Marchant Doubleday and wife Kalli, Julia Van den Berge Doubleday, Walker Hill Doubleday, Rebekah Hill Anderson and husband Wesley, Raymond M Hill, III, John Francis Hill and wife Macie, Turin Hill Dickman and husband Kyle, and Mahalie May Hill; great-grandchildren, Rhett Marshall Hill and Frank Goodpasture, V.; and son-in-law, Frank Goodpasture, III.
She is also survived by her brother, John Henry Lollar, III and wife, Klinka; nieces, Carolyn Lollar Alban and husband Theodoro, and Kristen Lollar McClain and husband, Matthew; and their five grand-daughters.
The family is deeply grateful for the loving care and devotion of her caregivers, Felisha Viser and Faye Carey, the staff of Holly Hall Christian Retirement Center, and of Houston Hospice.
