Obituary of Bernice A. Hollas

Bernice A. Hollas, 86, passed away in Houston, on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Bernice was born on a farm, north of Schulenburg, Texas on October 25, 1933.  She grew up in the St. John Community of Schulenburg, Texas.

Bernice married Alvin J. Hollas on October 19, 1953 and they moved to Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis A. and Hilda Richter; sister, Delores Valicek; brother-in-law, Ladik; brother, Daniel Richter; sister-in-law, Lena; and her great-grandson, Callan Symmank.

Bernice is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ronald Hollas and Esther, Carol Batt and Gregory, Deborah Hunter and Kevin, Rebecca Symmank and Robert; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jessica Belcher and Chip, Travis Batt and Louella, Dana Neunaker and Justin, Michelle Groppell and Stephen, Matthew Symmank and Genesis, and Eric Symmank and Meredith; and five great-grandchildren, Blake and Elizabeth Belcher, Taylor Neuneker, Benjamin Symmank and Olivia Groppell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bernice had a wonderful, happy life.  She loved her family, relatives, many friends and church.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, taking vacations, dancing and listening to polka music.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the St. Jerome Catholic Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.

A viewing and visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 6:30 on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood in Houston, Texas.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2020 also at St. Jerome Catholic Church.  A lunch reception will immediately follow Mass at the St. Jerome Family Activity Center.

A private Rite of Committal will be held on Friday at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas where Bernice will be laid to rest.
