To the family of Joe Whalen,
I want to send my sincere condolences for the loss of your Joe. He was a dear friend of mine.
We worked together in the chemical business. He was the Exxon guy and I was the Shell guy. In our circle of folks who worked in this industry he was affectionately known as "Uncle Joe".
He was a gentleman and a scholar.
May he rest in peace.

Joe touched so many lives during his long career. He was a dependable friend, helpmate and advisor to suppliers, customers and workmates alike, reminding the rest of us through his cheerful demeanor not to take ourselves too seriously. We needed him.
