Obituary of Carolyn Johnston Schindler

Carolyn Johnston Schindler, born January 14, 1929 in Lynchburg, Virginia to Arthur Barnard Johnston and Eula Yates, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, in Houston, Texas.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Schindler and her brother, Arthur Johnston.

She is survived by her children: Marcey Lassen, Evie (Lassen) Howard and her husband William, Jan (Lassen) Gloven and her husband Mark, Tobin Lassen and his wife Catherine, her stepchildren: Eric Schindler and Robert Schindler, her grandchildren: Ellen Howard and Aaron Howard, Jason Dye, Daniel Gloven and MacKenzie Gloven, James Lassen and his wife Lisa, Carolyn Lassen, Cappy Lassen, Mimi Lassen and Anne Elise Lassen, her step-grandchildren: Keith Schindler, Page Schindler Buchanan, and her step great-grandchild, Sloan Buchanan.

Carolyn was seventeen years old when she left her home of Lynchburg, Virginia and travelled to New Orleans to attend Charity Nursing School where she received her nursing degree.  She then pursued further studies and became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She was inspired by some world-renowned surgeons at Tulane, Ochsner, Hotel Dieu and the Texas Medical Center to further her career in anesthesia. In her final years of nursing, she focused only on anesthesia for children who needed surgery. She always loved children. She lived the remaining years of her life at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor where all the staff lovingly cared for and adored her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 9:15 a.m., Thursday, December 17, 2020, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, Texas.

The Rite of Committal will follow on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
