Obituary of Mercedes Renata Mosquera Castellanos
Mercedes Renata Mosquera Castellanos was born September 20th, 1945 in Caracas, Venezuela to Genaro Mosquera Reyes and Maria Conception Castellanos Ostos, died on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021, in Houston, Texas. She died peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 76.
She was survived by her only daughter Moylam Cecilia Wong, her grandchildren Linsum Jose Flores and Letay Cecilia Thompson, and her brothers Luis Genaro and Carlos Mosquera. She leaves behind a wealth of nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members that loved her dearly.
Mercedes was a wonderful woman that led a life filled with notable accomplishments. Mercedes graduated from St. Maria University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. She worked as an Executive VP in the banking and finance industry, she retired at the age of 55 from the public sector and later became a consultant in business finance and academics. She accomplished her many goals, reaching career heights during a time that was not receptive to working women. She broke glass ceilings as both a leader and ethical professional. Mercedes was also a champion as a nurturing mother. She prioritized being a family woman. She selflessly took in her late sister’s five children to raise them as her own. She always went out of her way to help those in need, supporting various of her children through college. She also instilled a sense of kindness and empathy. This kindness and generosity were extended to every person whose life she touched. What followed her retirement was a life filled with travel and spending time with her grandkids- including the furry ones. She loved fiercely and unconditionally, and her legacy will live on forever.
A mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 27th, 2021 at St. Theresa Memorial Park, 6622 Haskell Street, Houston, TX 77007, in Houston, Texas.
