Steve Kolar, 71, Magnolia, TX, formerly of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully into the presence of his Lord and savior on June 10, 2015 in his home surrounded by family following a courageous and inspirational battle with cancer. Stephen John Kolar was born December 19, 1943 in New Kensington, PA the son of Steve and Wilma (Knasko) Kolar. He grew up in Brackenridge, PA and was baptized into the Lutheran church. He graduated from Har-Brack High School before enlisting in the US Air Force in 1965. It was during this service and while stationed at the Grand Forks Air Force base that Steve met and married the love of his life, Carol Fontaine, on August 24, 1968. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force he worked several years in the water maintenance department for the City of Grand Forks before going into business for himself by opening the Hairloft Salon in 1979, along with his wife. Steve was an active owner/operator of the Hairloft until 1982 when he returned to the City of Grand Forks as an Operator and finally an Environmental Chemist. Steve and his wife also lived in Grand Junction, CO where he worked for the Grand Junction Water Treatment Plant and guided big game hunts for Bill Law Outfitters. Later they lived in Park City, UT before moving to Magnolia, TX. Steve was an avid outdoorsman who loved the wide-open spaces of North Dakota and the bounty of sporting opportunities it provided with friends and family. His passion for the outdoors was something he loved sharing with his grandchildren. He also greatly enjoyed spending time traveling with his wife to visit family and friends. Steve is survived by his wife of 46 years; one son David (Jennifer) and three grandchildren (Mason, Roman & London) Magnolia, TX; mother and one sister Barbara (William) Hohos, all of West Leechburg, PA; one brother Timothy (Maureen), Brackenridge, PA. He is preceded in death by his father and brother, William. The family plans to hold a private celebration in honor of his life. He will be interned in the rolling prairies of North Dakota that he held so dear.
