Obituary of Norman Lee Chersky

Norman Lee Chersky, born February 19, 1943, to Leona and Lawrence Cicherski in Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday, May 23, 2021.

Norman was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Louise; his parents, Leona and Lawrence Cicherski; mother-in-law, Dorothy; and  father-in-law, Fred Hilligiest; and his brother-in-law, David Hilligiest.

Norman leaves to cherish loving memories to his devoted wife of 57 years, Patricia; his son, Rodney Chersky and his wife, Samantha; daughter, Anissa and her husband, Steven Meier; daughter, Melanie and her husband, Trey Fuller; two granddaughters, Kayla Meier and Kristen Chersky; two great-grandchildren (aka “The Greats”) Luke and Kamila Chersky; sister, Patricia and her husband, Thad Aubin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Norman also leaves behind a special crumb companion, grand-dog, Mika.

Norman grew up in The Houston Heights where he attended Christ the King Catholic School. He served as an altar boy at Christ the King Catholic Church until the week before marrying his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Patricia, on June 20, 1964.

Norman graduated from St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas in 1961. While attending St. Pius X High School, he was elected as the Student Body President, worked as an Usher at River Oaks and Garden Oaks Theatres.

After graduating from St. Pius X, Norman attended St. Thomas University and University of Houston where he received his B.A. in Political Science. He was accepted to the University of Houston Law Center where he was recognized by the Order of the Barons (Legal Scholastic Honors Society) and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence. (JD).

Norman served as a litigation attorney, including, private practice, several corporate insurance companies including, Aetna Life & Casualty, Great Southern Life Insurance Company, Prudential Insurance Company of America before retiring as Senior Counsel Law Department from American General Financial Group. He was a member of the Houston Bar Association where he was admitted to practice in all courts of the State of Texas, United States Court of Appeals – 5th Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He was recently recognized by the State Bar of Texas for achieving 50 years of honorable service.

Norman was active in the Timbergrove Civic Club where he served as President, served the Near North Advisory Counsel; Director on a 12-person advisory council to the Houston Police Department’s Differential Response Team. He was a past member: Bar Candidates and Prison Release Committees of the Houston Bar Association, and American Corporate Counsel Association. He served several years on the St. Pius X School Board, coached Little League Baseball for the Northwest YMCA and the Timbergrove National Little League. He loved all sports, especially the Houston Astros.

A very special thank you to Norman’s home health healthcare nurses, Shawna & Rachelle. The family also extends sincere gratitude to ICU Nurses Natasha and Vinod, the 5th Floor East Tower nurses, and the entire medical staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital – Memorial City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell St., in Houston, Texas.
