Obituary of Teddie Jane Melton
TEDDIE JANE MELTON was called home to be with the Lord on September 5, 2021, in Houston, Texas. Teddie, mostly known by her childhood name "Teddie Jane" was born to Teddy and Juanita Baugh, February 16, 1953, in Houston, Texas. She spent most of her life growing up in Houston and attended M B Smiley High School. Her family transferred to Longview, Texas prior to her starting her senior year.
Teddie Jane graduated from Longview High School in 1971 and was married on June 30, 1972. She lived with her husband in Longview until moving back to Houston with their daughter in 1975. She resided in Katy until her death.
Even though, Teddie Jane was divorced, she played the role of mother and father in a time when it wasn’t easy. Despite these struggles, she was always relentless and not one to ever give up so that she could provide the very best for her daughter, which is an act of personal sacrifice unto itself. She lived her life for her daughter, grandchildren, best friend and feline companion.
Teddie Jane spent most of her career in the insurance industry, having worked from the late 1970’s to the 1990’s at Ranger Insurance. She was passionate about her profession and practiced with skill until her illness forced her into early retirement in 2008. She made huge Saturday and Sunday morning breakfasts with any and everything you could imagine but her homemade hashbrowns from scratch was her staple. Until her illness, she was always very well organized, had the cleanest home, knew where everything was, how to fix anything and planned her finances down to the penny. She did almost everything primarily by herself and will be remembered by her relentless determination and strength to power through it all until she was no longer able.
Teddie Jane was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Teri Turet and husband Brandon; grandchildren Caitlyn Mews of Delaware, Baileigh Melton-Turet and Madison Turet of Houston, Texas; sisters, Bonnie Grons and husband Bernd of Humble, Texas, Connie Brock and husband Lynn of Missouri City, Texas and brother Mike Baugh of Spring, Texas.
She also leaves behind her most treasured best friend Rhea Orr of Clear Lake, Texas, her beloved cat companion, Abagail; great-grandson’s Declan and Levi and many nephews, Danny Word and wife Kelly of Magnolia, Texas, Chris Word and wife Cicily of Rhome, Texas, Keith Tedder and wife Paula of Spring, Texas, and Jeff Tedder and wife Nicole of Pearland, Texas.
A funeral service for Teddie Jane Melton will be at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021, in the Chapel with The Rev. Kristin Huffman officiating. A Reception will follow in the Parlor.
I shall do my best beloved,
To do all you’ve asked of me.
When I fail you must forgive me,
For where you are I cannot see.
What I know is that I love you,
More than the world can ever know.
Yet, so often I fail to show it,
I’m so ashamed that this be so.
Please forgive me for my failings,
It is not for lack of trying.
I know you need me to be strong,
But it’s so hard when I am crying.
I, too, need you so much my darling,
Until we’re renewed in heaven above.
Your smiles reward and give me courage,
Our hugs and kisses seal our love.
