After moving to Long Island she was an art teacher at Barnum Woods Elementary and later at W.T. Clarke High School, both in the East Meadow school district. Following their teaching careers, Joan and her husband retired to Rotunda West, Florida where she pursued her passion for art. She showcased her oil paintings and watercolors at several art galleries and won awards for works depicting “Old Florida “. In 2008, Joan moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to her son Michael. She is survived by her four children, Mike (Anne), Linda (David), Kathy (Neal), and Mary (Peter) and by four grandchildren (Katee, Reilly, Peter, Jane) and two great-grandchildren (Katelynn, Charlotte). The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Lovett Place for their loving care for Joan during her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Cremation was private. A memorial will be planned at a later date. We appreciate your love and support during this difficult time.
