Louis Matthews

Obituary of Louis B. Matthews

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Louis B. "L.B." Matthews, better known as “Mick,” was born August 13, 1943 in Amarillo, Texas.

Mick was preceded in death by his parents and his young daughter, Katy.

He is survived by his love, Michele Ireland; his children, Scott Matthews and his partner, Lei Rivas; Alexandra Seals and her husband, Kyle who was much thought of as a son to Mick; and his wonderful grandchildren, Dylan Jubert, Phillip Seals, Savannah Seals, Annabelle Seals; and foster-grandchild, Miley “Moose.”

Mick attended Tascosa High School where he met some of his best friends and is proud to say he still holds a couple track records.

Though he worked long in the property management industry, his noticeable achievements are in his volunteer work. He cuddled babies in the NICU at St. Joseph’s hospital in Phoenix, did everything he could to support Catholic Charities (the organization that blessed him with his two oldest, Katy and Scott), and held every position from sacrisent to usher at his church, St. Bernadette in Scottsdale, Arizona. He lived an amazing life, touching the hearts of everyone he met.

His last year was spent back in Texas living a few hours away from his son whom he visited often and loved following sports with, and down the street from Alexandra, Kyle and most of his grandchildren. He loved watching them grow, celebrating ice cream Friday, and the joy of being so loved by so many and his endless supply of dad jokes. He will have a family service in Dallas in the weeks to come, but we ask that any gifts or flowers be donated to the nurses he loved in the NICU at St. Joseph’s in Phoenix, Arizona through the following website: supportstjosephs.org. Growing up, this only child could never have imagined the extended family of cousins, friends, in-laws and others that built him an absolutely amazing and blessed life. Thank you to all who loved him, he is waiting for you and happy to greet you into the gates of heaven.
