Obituary of June Elizabeth Ramsey

Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June Elizabeth (Smith) Ramsey was born on February 10, 1923, in Houston, Texas to John Whitmore and Jessie Farron (Page) Smith. Her lineage has been traced back to Samuel Smith who immigrated from Ipswich, Suffolk, England, to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1622. June graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1939, and married James Thomas Ramsey in September 1941. They were lifelong residents of Houston with their three children, Rev. James Ramsey, Judith Ramsey Bott, widow of Ken Bott, and Linda Gail Ramsey Steakley and her husband, Clifford Steakley.

June was a most loving Gran-Gran to her four grandchildren, Kasey (Bott) Lakey and her husband, Dan, Dr. Kevin Bott and his wife, Jennifer, Eric Steakley, and Nicole (Steakley) Rogers and her husband, Jim; as well as ten great-grandchildren with another baby girl on the way. June peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2022, 14 days shy of her 99th birthday.

June is remembered as a fun-loving, classy woman with a feisty spirit. She spent much of her life dancing. As a child she could be found tap dancing on the stage; as an adult she enjoyed social dances such as ballroom and square dancing. She was always a beauty to behold with her signature style of fancy jewelry and fashionable clothes, some made by hand. For over 20 years, she was a weekly volunteer in the office workroom at Houston's First Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the community of fellow volunteers. Throughout her life she found joy in being outdoors with gardening, picnicking, and camping. Her welcoming smile was endearing to everyone she met, and her door was always open to friends for love, laughter, and long conversation. Her heart was filled with love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; whom she prayed for daily. No one could have asked for a more caring, loving, generous, faithful, and self-sacrificing Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Houston's Frist Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas. The interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery in Houston, Texas.
