I've lived just down the street from Audrey for 35+ years. My late husband purchased our house on the corner before we were married and Audrey was one of the first people I met walking my dog. She always encouraged both of us to "get involved", she was truly a neighborhood cheerleader. We've had many a candid conversation about current events, health care, Houston then and now, neighbors, but mostly about the history of Winlow Place. Audrey was a researcher at heart and her knowledge of Winlow Place and memories of events and residents was unmatched. I will truly miss her and she'll never be forgotten!

I will miss our phone calls back and forth to each other. Her funny little pictures and letters that she sent us. But mostly I will just miss her. She was so much like my Grandmother Ada, Aunt Katie, and Aunt May. We here in Missouri call it a McKee attitude. We will always love you Audrey.

My Memories of Aunt Audrey. Once, as a child spending the night, she was excited to share a movie that was to play on TV. Father Goose. We cuddled up in the bed and she mattered on about Cary Grant. Being a small child, at some point I fell asleep long before the movie was over. But I think of her every time I see the movie or any Cary Grant movie. One time she taught me Canasta. I have forgotten how to play it. Must rectify that. Her favorite tree for Christmas was a scotch pine. She had antique colored tinsel. She had me help her lay them carefully on the tree and just as carefully remove them and pack away for the next year. One time we were waiting for her mother, my Granny, to pick us up in her white VW bug. We were standing at the end of her driveway at her Marshall house. "This is how you get someone to stop for you," she teased. She showed me how to turn my ankle and raise an imaginary skirt. My one and only fishing story occurred at her property. I had a cane pole with a red and white bobber. She showed me how to bait my hook with a minnow. All the fish we caught were set on a stringer in the water. The stick the stringer was tied to worked its way loose. Awww. The whole thing got away. But to everyone's surprise, I recaught it!
Another time spending the night, we had fish and hush puppies for dinner. I am not sure why i didn't know what a hush puppy was.. She picked up a puppy, barked, then shook her finger at it. "Hush! Puppy!" I was always excited when my dad packed all us kids in the car at night to go to her house. Granny was there and we children ran around the yard until it was time for the night blooming cereus to open. Gotta get me some of those and begin that tradition with my wee grandchildren. I'm sure more will occur to me later.
My favorite author said, "No one is truly gone until the ripples the left in the world fade away." Keeping her memory alive with my grandchildren will keep her with us a very long time. Love you, Aunt Audrey!
