Obituary of Gene Autry Illich

Gene Autry Illich, born January 30, 1938 to John Joseph and Mary Louise Illich in Biloxi, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 in The Woodlands, Texas.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise; father, John; and brothers, Anthony, John Ellwood, J.B., and James “Jim.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Gwendolyn “Treva” Illich; his children, Sherry and her husband, Kevin, of Spring, Texas, Greg and his wife Maria of Houston, Texas, Paul and his wife, Gail, of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark and his wife Tuyet of Austin, Texas.; and brother, Marion, Germany.  He is also survided by our precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gene enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and served his county during the Cold War.

Shortly after eing discharged from the Navy in 1960, he met his future wife, Treva.  They were married on June 2, 1961 in Biloxi, Mississippi.  They raised four children.  They have resided in Biloxi, Dallas, Waco, and Houston before coming to The Woodlands area in 1974, where they lived for 47 years.

Gene received his Associates Degree in Computer Programming in 1970.  He then embarkedon a career in the oil industry.  Upon retiring he held a pert-time job as a Park Ranger in The Woodlands.

Gene loved th outdoors and playing with his grandchildren.  Among his activities were golf, wind surging, fishing, hunting, biking and building things for the grandchildren.

A Vigil for the Deceased will begin at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 17, 2022, followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch Drive in The Woodlands, Texas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, March 18, 2022, followed by a reception with the family also at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church.  The Rite of Committal will follow at Klein Cemetery with military honors at 2:00 p.m., 14711 FM 1488 in Magnolia, Texas.
