Obituary of Steven Douglas McNiff

Please share a memory of Steven to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Steven Douglas McNiff "Steve" was born February 25th, 1966, in Flint, Michigan, to James and Valerie McNiff. He was raised in Flushing, Michigan, with his older brothers Brad and Lane and younger brother Sean McNiff. He left us suddenly on May 11th, 2022.

Steve graduated from Flushing High School and went on to earn his business degree with a concentration in finance from the University of Michigan. He worked in the banking industry for over 30 years in Flint, Detroit, New Orleans, and Houston.

He moved to New Orleans in the late 1990s, where he volunteered for the Audubon Zoo. He transferred to Houston in 2005, just two months before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.

He is survived by his partner, Sherri Covert, mother, Valerie McNiff, father, James (Jim) McNiff, his brothers, Brad (daughter Addy), Lane (wife Pil, and their children Audra and Devyn), brother Sean, his beloved dog, Guthrie, and more friends than you can count.

Steve loved traveling, eating excellent food, drinking good wine, and hanging out with friends and family. He loved the Michigan Wolverines (Go Blue!), riding for the St. Arnold's MS 150 Bike Team, volunteering at Buffalo Bayou Brewery, and riding in the Krewe of Endymion and Krewe of Bacchus at Mardi Gras. He was committed to donating to charity and to being a good person. He was friendly and boisterous and “never met a stranger.” Most of all, he brought joy to the people around him. He was so loved and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:15 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022 at The Covenant Church, 4949 Caroline St. in Houston, Texas, with a reception to follow. Afterward, at 6:00 p.m., we will meet again at Underdogs Pub, 4212 Washington Ave. Houston, Texas 77007 to toast Steve.
