Obituary of Erde Ramos Dato

Please share a memory of Erde to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our dearly beloved Tatay, Erde Ramos Dato, peacefully passed away on July 7, 2022, in Spring, Texas.  He was born on the  24th of November 1938 to Eleuterio and Esperanza in Kabankalan, Philippines.

Erde was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Raymundo, Abraham, Gabriel, Eleuterio Jr., and sisters Esperanza, Luz, and Clara. He is survived by his wife, Marina.

Erde was a proud father of six: Lizette, Eleanor, Leslie, Erma Lee, Jeg, and Anthony; sons-in-law, Edwin, and Tom, and daughters-in-law, Leah, and Cari.  He is blessed with grandchildren Alexandria, Jessica, Angelo, Lauren, Daniel, Caius, Shai, Gage, Locke, Grace, Drake, Cade, Rook, Melba, Pyke, Jack, and Finn.

Erde earned his Bachelor of Law degree in Bacolod City.  He was admitted into the Philippine Bar in 1964 and had his own private practice.  When he moved to the US, he taught in business schools until he retired.

Tatay was a bedtime storyteller extraordinaire.  His love for Our Lady was expressed in his Marian devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Holy Rosary where the entire family would gather to pray at the grotto in the front lawn of our home in the evening, and his devotion to our Lady of Mount Carmel, whose scapular he wore until his death.  He lived a good Christian life.  He was actively involved in the Christian Family Movement in the Philippines, a member of the Cursillo and devotedly served in a parish committee at the Blessed Sacrament Church in New York where they were Parishioners until their relocation to Texas.  He was generous and kind.  He spent most of his time with our family, and never failed to appreciate all the simple things in life.

A viewing and visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., US Central Time, with a recitation of the the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch Drive in The Woodlands, Texas.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, July 22, 2022, also at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church.  A reception will follow in Domec Hall at the church.
