Obituary of Rodney Wayne Pennell

RODNEY WAYNE PENNELL, born August 21, 1967 in Nederland, Texas to George D. Pennell and Sharon Burns Pennell Webber died on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in Houston, Texas.

 

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandparents, Abel and Bertha Gaudet; grandparents, John P. and Alma Burns; grandparents, Raymond Pennell and Mary Ryman; niece, Ashley McCray Mallory; and uncle, J. Ron Titus

 

Rodney is survived by his son, Cameron D. Pennell and partner, Cheyenne Jones of  Houston, Texas; grandchild, Juniper Pennell-Houston; sister, Denise McCray and partner Michael Havers of Houston, Texas.; Maw Maw Mary Seymour-Nederland; niece, Angel McCray of Houston, Texas; niece, Alisha Hansen and Scott; daughter, Bethany-Nederland; aunt, Mary Titus of Houston, Texas; and uncle, David and Betsy Burns of Montgomery, Texas.

 

Rodney graduated from Nederland High School in 1986 and had many jobs over the course of his life, including garbage collector in Nederland, general mechanic, handyman, boat captain’s assistant transporting supplies and visitors to offshore locations, mortgage inspector, fast food cook, waste water technician and pool technician.

 

As a child he had fun visiting his cousins in Mississippi. Later in life, Rodney enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching football and car races. He purchased lotto tickets weekly, always hopeful of holding the prized ticket, thankful for the occasional winnings. 

 

Holidays, birthdays, and other family gatherings were filled with laughter, fun gifts and his favorite food: shrimp, goulash, anything chocolate, and coconut cream pie.

 

Rodney’s greatest joy in life was being a dad; also, a loving brother; a caring uncle and nephew, and one proud grandpaw.  He was also known by many, as “Pops.”

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street in Houston, Texas.

 

Rodney will be buried at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland, Texas.
