Obituary of Kathryn Westrick Weinheimer
Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathryn Westrick Weinheimer, born April 7, 1927, in Canton, Ohio, to Mary Augusta and Francis "Frank" Westrick, passed away on November 4, 2022, in Houston, Texas. Preceded in death by her parents, by siblings Phillip, Mary, and Ann, and by her beloved husband, Alfred J. Weinheimer, Kate is survived by six children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, and many other relatives across the U.S.
Kate trained as a nurse at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing and was early in her career when she met Al, the love of her life. After marrying in 1952, the two lived in Richmond and Detroit before moving their growing family to Norman, OK, in 1956, then to Houston in 1977. Being a mom to six active kids was more than a full-time job, yet Kate still found time for weaving, sewing, knitting, gardening, and other hobbies. Her beautiful handwoven rugs won awards.
Her kids and grandkids enjoyed making things with her over the years and were delighted to receive her handmade Christmas stockings, socks, hats, rugs, wall hangings, dolls, and more. Memories of Kate’s extraordinary creativity – as well as her love of family, children, dolls, fairy tales, and ice cream – will live on through all who knew her.
Kate was a loving wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family is deeply grateful to the staff of Parkway Place and Blue Star Hospice for the compassionate care they provided at the end of her life.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2022 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Walsingham, 7809 Shadyvilla Lane in Houston, Texas.
