Obituary of Cristina de Jarrín
Cristina de Jarrín was born in a small rural town in Ecuador being the younest of nine children. She was a country girl through and through, but after she moved to the big city, she never looked back but always remained in close contact with cousins, nieces and nephews until the end. Her three sisters eventually moved to New York where they deepened their sibling bond which lasted a lifetime.
She met José Jarrín at a party in 1956, and after a lightning courtship, they married within months. Magali, Cecilia and José Julio (Pepe) soon followed, and she dedicated her body and soul to her three children.
Cristina was a devout Catholic and never missed her daily prayers nor a mass on Sunday. Her most beloved virgin was the Virgin of the Perpetual Sorrow.
Cristina had many passions, mainly traveling and gardening. She travelled extensively around the world, for which she was very proud. When at home, she immersed herself in her plants, flowers, herbs and tended to her Grotto with absolute love and dedication.
She enjoyed her grandchildren immensely and was a stern but loving fixture throughout their lives. She always reminded herself of how privileged she was to have met her five great-grandchildren, all of whom called her, “Bis.”
Her favorite music was always the group, Los Panchos. Everything stopped when they come on the radio and later on YouTube.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, José Jarrín, her son, Pepe, her grandson, Alejandro, and her great-granddaughter, Ava.
A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service honoring the life of Cristina at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Joseph Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street in Houston, Texas. The services will be livestreamed so that all of Cristina's family and friends in both North and South America may be part of this beautiful celebration.
Holy Masses will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Guayaquil, Ecuador at a later date.
