Obituary of Martha Hallman

Martha Suit Hallman, born September 3, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Suit, went to be with Jesus on the morning of December 26, 2015, in Houston, Texas.
Martha attended Hogg Middle School and Reagan High School. She graduated from the University of Houston at age 19, and taught English at Burbank Middle School for several years. While teaching she went to night school and earned a Master's degree in Education from the University of Houston.
Martha was a dedicated pianist starting at age nine and began performing concerts and recitals frequently. Martha would visit a piano and music store when she was downtown and played on a Steinway concert grand and clearly fell in love with it and the store owners were pleased to have a beautiful young girl playing one of their pianos. She, with the help of her brother, convinced their father to buy it.
In her late teens and early twenties she danced professionally both tap dance and ballet.
Martha was active in civic affairs. She was president of the Etude Music club and president of the Tuesday Musical Club.
She was a docent at the Heritage Society Homes in downtown Houston.
Martha is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Grady L. Hallman, MD; three sons, Daniel Hallman, David Hallman and his wife, Kimmy, Charles Hallman, MD, and his wife, Martha; grandchildren, Joshua and his wife Heather Hallman, Joy Hallman, Jacob Hallman, Kathryn and husband Cole Wallace, Johnny Gentle, Carley Hallman, Kyle Hallman; great-granddaughter, Olivia Wallace.
Also surviving is her distinguished brother, Dr. Herman Suit, and his wife, Dr. Joan Suit.
Martha was preceded in death by grandson, Bryan Gentle.
A viewing and reception with the family will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2015 at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street in Houston.
A private graveside service will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
