"Charlie and I kept beating each other out of starting positions as offensive tackle, so the coaches moved me to right tackle and Charlie to left tackle ( or maybe it was the other way around). He was a fierce and fair competitor. After practice in the late Fall we would go dove hunting on a ranch south of town. We'd leave out shotguns in my pickup during school then head out after practice. We never got very many dove, but it was a good way to unwind. Sometimes we would build a small fire and cook up a snack. On the way home with the windows open and the radio (am only) blaring we would sing our way home. Charlie would keep time by pounding his hand on the truck door. He always wore his class ring so there were small scratches in the paint to the tune of the Beatles or the Stones. He was a musical guy. When we were recruited by the University of Houston some alums took us out to dinner at a fancy restaurant where they had a singer and her band. Charlie was encouraged to go up and sing for the whole place, which he did. He sang "Old Man River" in his deep rich voice and to this day it is what comes to mind whenever I hear that song. Charlie was part of the heart and soul of the Dirty Thirty. He helped hold us together and achieve more than anyone else had before at Lee High School. I'm sorry we lost track of each other but I'm happy for the memories of a true friend."

"My deepest condolences to all of Charlie's relations. We were classmates in the Class of '68, Robert E. Lee High School, Midland. Charlie was on the Lee football team w/ my high school sweetheart. He was a good guy, an excellent football player, a good academic student, and well loved by those who had the pleasure and honor of knowing him. He leaves a hole in our class and with all those who had the privilege of sharing this journey with him. Godspeed Charlie.... on on ye Rebels."

"To the Moore family: May God comfort and give you peace. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Mr. Moore, Charley, as he liked to be called, through Community Health Choice. I am a former employee and would set up luncheons and logistics for the monthly Board Meetings. He was a ready champion for those less fortunate and a strong support for healthcare for children who parents could not afford insurance. His ready smile and courteous mannerisms made him an approachable person you wanted to get to know. It is with sorrow I learned of his passing. God needed another angel! Dee Garrett"

"Charley was an irrepressible, funny and incredibly smart person. I had the great fortune to meet him many moons ago, and he never failed to both delight and impress, with a sense of humor that was timeless and contagious. His mental acumen was next to none. A great person who will be sorely missed.

"Very saddened to learn of Charley's passing, and my heart goes out to his family. I worked with Charley at the FERC when he was General Counsel, and occasionally ran into him here in Houston. He was a wonderful, caring, and genuine person, smart, funny, and charming. The energy industry has lost a great lawyer, but for his family and loved ones, they have lost so much more."

"Dear Cathy and family
Charley was a generous, gracious, and insightful colleague and friend for decades. With a smile that, to use one of his phrases, was bigger than Dallas and showed right to his eyes, he spoke lovingly and frequently about how happy his family made him. He looked for the best in others and it showed in the universal admiration and loyalty he earned. He's leaving a large void in the lives of the people who were privileged to know him. Deepest respect and affection.
Donna and Larry Acker"
