Obituary of Charles Morell Milburn

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Morell Milburn, 94, our sweet husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home in Montgomery, Texas.   Charles, or Chuck as he was known to his friends, was regarded by many as the nicest person you ever knew.

Born in 1928 and raised in Eunice, Louisiana, Charles had a distinguished military and civilian career.   He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War inside the Pentagon.   Afterwards, he joined one of the “Big 8” accounting firms Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in New Orleans.

A proud family man, Charles married Cassa (Tuti) Davis Hines in 1960 and was a devoted husband and father to their two daughters, Carolyn and Celene.   Charles was fortunate to find love again and married Frances (Fran) Aaron Summers in 1984.

As a longtime Lake Charles resident, Charles was involved in the southwest Louisiana community, serving on the board of a local credit union and the vestry of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church.   When he was not working, Charles was an avid golfer at the Lake Charles Country Club.   He and Fran spent many wonderful rounds with friends and taking the grandsons and granddaughters out to learn golf.   Charles retired after a 30-year career at Citgo / Cities Service and moved to Bentwater.

One of the mementos that marked Charles’ life, other than kindness, was his love of Old Fashions!   When people would ask Charles how he had lived so long, he eagerly shared his drink recipe published decades earlier in the Lake Charles Junior League cookbook.   In the last years of his life, he and his buddies would go to lunch on Thursdays, sharing military, golf and family stories about grandkids.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty Milburn Beattie and Marilyn (Duke) Milburn Derbes, and first wife Cassa (Tuti) Hines Milburn.   He is survived by his wife, Frances Aaron Summers Milburn, daughters Carolyn Milburn Campbell (Orion) and Celene Milburn Miller (John) and son Jason Aaron Summers (Travis), grandchildren Orion Campbell IV, Cameron Miller (Eleanor), McKenzie Miller Hernandez (Andre), Claire Campbell Mayfield (Mike), Isabella Miller, and great-grandchildren Sloan Ruth Hernandez and Townes Morell Hernandez.

A memorial service in celebration of Charles’ life will be held at St James the Apostle Episcopal Church in Conroe, Texas, on Monday, April 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation in the parish hall following the service.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Montgomery County Food Bank, St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church or Disabled Veterans of Willis, Texas.
