I just heard about Sammy’s passing. I knew he wasn’t well after our multiple hunts last season and conversations. He was a trooper through it all. I’ve hunted with him for many years with Butch and Rick. One thing that sticks out to me is our conversation about what he was dealing with… his response was if I can make it through this hunting season I’ll be grateful about that. One of our many dove hunts over the years was last year and his son and grandson were with him. I can still visualize the joy he and his grandson had riding around on the four wheeler. Sammy Rest Easy Brother! Maybe we can hunt in the next life. Condolences to his family and friends.

I just found out that Sammy had completed his fight and finished his race valiantly. He's always been a kind, considerate man taking care of his customers. I met him in 1993 and I followed him with every move he made. I truly miss our visits at the dealership. He loved his family immensely and our last conversation, he was waiting on the new grand baby to come. I'll continue to pray for God's strength and comfort for his family.

I met Sammy 25 years ago. First at the dealership and then realized our sons were at st. Pius together. While I know this may not be true, I felt like my family and I was his favorite Lincoln client. He watched out for us; he always had a smile for me; he was always truthful and gracious. He’d call when he hadn’t heard from us for a while. When times were so tough on my family he’d reach out. He’s an angel in heaven. I’m mad at him tho. He promised he’d reach out if he was taking a turn for the worse - I’m sure he said that to all his clients. So I forgive him. I would have dropped everything in my life to be there to pay my respects. I’ll always include him in my prayers on 4/14 which is also the day my mother died. And he was laid to rest on my son’s birthday. Sammy was the most gracious and humble person I’ve ever known. Always a smile, always joyous. Heaven is lucky to have him. I will miss him.

Q: What will you miss most about Samuel?
A: Sammy was a dear friend who took care of business. He always took my call, he listened and offered positive suggestions. I will truly miss him greeting me at my car and calling me with the updates. We often swamped grand kid stories, always with a smile and laughter. He left no stone unturned to make sure my needs were met. Rest well my friend, you fought a good fight, now take you rest until we meet again.

The Vandever family sends our love to Lisa, Sammy, Jr. & Nicki, Nick & Shirlene, Matt & Megan and all the grands. We will forever miss Sammy and hold close to our hearts all the wonderful times we spent together. Whether it was walking the streets of our neighborhood (our lame attempt at exercising), eating countless pounds of crawfish; many pasta Sundays, hurricane parties, football or baseball games, rodeos, lake house, Frio, our kids weddings, birthday dinners or just because dinners, Sammy always made our time together feel special. He loved my boys and they loved and respected him.
I will always be in awe at the courage he showed us all during his battles with cancer. He always asked that we take care of Lisa and not worry about him. He stayed strong in his faith and loving until the end.
Rest In Peace my dear friend and enjoy your well earned eternal rewards.
Love you always,
Margaret Vandever, Matthew, Michael & Kristian, Emilia & Isabella

Sammy was so special. I have know him since he started in service at Southwest Lincoln Mercury on Southwest Freeway. Sammy was very helpful to me. Always had a smile and was never to busy that he couldn’t take time to talk with you. He would talk about his family and you would know that was his pride and joy.
Sammy was always very honest with me. When he felt it was time for me to have something done to my car or time to buy a new one, he would let me know. I always took his advise because I knew he was being honest with me.
I will miss him dearly but not as much as his family.
Praying for all his family.

I met Sammy working at Garwood Hunting Club. From the moment I met him I felt like I had known him for years. His genuine love for everyone and his caring personality was one of a kind. Sammy loved hunting and was the first person up every morning ready to get to the fields. I’ll never forget him bringing buttermilk pies to the lodge and telling us “Hey I made y’all some pies”. We looked at the pies then turned to him and said tell your wife we said thank you. With the biggest smile on his face he said ok I’ll tell her. He had a joke for every occasion. A memory that I’ll cherish forever is him being at my wedding and dancing with me despite not feeling his best. I admired his strength and desire to continue to fight as hard and as long as he fought. He was an amazingly strong man. A great guy who was more than a friend he was family. Rest peacefully Sammy we Love you and you will definitely be missed.

Sammy was one of my oldest friends. We went to kindergarten together at St. Rose and graduated from St. Thomas together. Lived in the same neighborhood. And hunted together a few times. I will miss him for he was always kind and never judged. A wonderful man. Thanks for being my friend. RIP.

I first met Sammy when I was just a little girl. My mom and him worked together at Southwest Lincoln Mercury. When I was old enough to have a car, all my vehicles went through him for repairs. I followed him to the other 2 dealerships as well. He was funny and kind. I could always trust he wasn't bullshitting me about a repair. He will be greatly missed.

I worked as the Lincoln Rep for West Point Sugar Land. That’s where I met Sammy, and we quickly became friends. Anytime I was in the area for work, we would grab lunch. He always had to sit facing the door, and lunch was at 11 am on the dot. I don’t think I’ll ever know anyone that loved duck hunting as much as him. He was a delightful person to be around and a true friend and family man. I am grateful to have known him these last few years.
