Obituary of Meliton Herrera

Please share a memory of Meliton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Meliton “Tony” Herrera, age 72, of Conroe, Texas, originally of Potrero del Llano, Durango, Mexico passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023 after a brave battle and complications of multiple myeloma.

Tony was born April 1, 1951 to his parents, Saturnino and Alejandra Herrera, and came to the United States at 19 years of age in pursuit of a better life. He worked for the city of Mundelein in Illinois where he met and married Gilda. They moved to Texas in 1980 with their three kids to escape the snow.

Tony worked as a truck driver for years traveling the country. He eventually shifted to the concrete business because Tony wanted to be present for the many activities his kids were involved in. He loved sports, barbequing, NHRA, and cars, especially his ’76 Corvette. He also loved traveling and spending time with his grandkids.

Tony had been a parishioner of Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Parish since 1984.  He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gilda Herrera, of Conroe, Texas; their three children, Joey Herrera and his wife, Lisa, of Conroe, Texas; Michael Herrera and his wife, Kate, of Houston, Texas; Angie Gratz and her husband, Michael, of Spring, Texas; and his four grandchildren: Jacob Gratz, Juliet Gratz, Colt Herrera, and Jack Herrera. He is also survived by five brothers, five sisters, and countless nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Saturnino and Alejandra Herrera.

Gilda will remember Tony for his loving commitment to the sacrament of marriage, his children will remember him for his devotion to family above all else, and his grandchildren will remember him for his silly humor and infectious laughter. All will remember that he made their lives better by being a part of them.

A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:40 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m., with a reception in Domec Hall following the service on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Sts. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 26777 Glen Loch Drive in The Woodlands, Texas.
