Obituary of Kay Schnitzius

Kay Schnitzius, born March 16, 1944 in Winfield, Kansas, died on Saturday, April 29, 2023, in Houston, Texas.

 

Kay was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Crump Thompson, and her sister, Janis Thompson Gardner.

 

She is survived by her devoted husband, Thomas H. “Tom” Schnitzius; her sister, Joan Thompson Yust; her son, Brent Schnitzius and his wife, Kimberly Bell; her daughter, Stacey Schnitzius Nash; her three grandchildren, Sophie Nash Culver, Patrick Nash, and Avalon Bell; and her four great-grandchildren Mila, Truitt, Nora, and Arlo.

 

Kay grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1966. She met her husband Tom while in college, where they fell in love and got engaged two weeks after they first met. They married on July 17, 1966, and eventually settled in Houston, Texas, where they raised their family.

 

Kay was committed to her church and community, serving as an elder for many years at Grace Presbyterian and as a Founding Committee member of Grace School. She also volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

 

Later in life, Kay established a career in home design, decor, and organization, helping people make their homes a special place to live. She was a force in the lives of her family and friends — known for her strength to do the right thing, her generosity, and her sense of style.

 

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 in the Founders’ Chapel at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane in Houston, Texas.  Please plan to attend a reception at her daughter’s home following the service.
