I did not know him as a business associate, but as family. Scott was at every wedding, funeral or family event. He was bold and decisive, but conscientious and considerate. It sounds like he treated everyone like family. We will miss him.

I have known Scott since 2007 at the very early part of my career. I worked with him through the years and also had a close working relationship when he chaired the board risk committee and his time as CEO. Scott was one of the smartest individual I have met during my career. He was wise, always thought of what was good long term and stood by the employees. I have learnt a lot from Scott and I am grateful for all his support in helping me grow in my career. Sending lots of prayers to Scott. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Amir

I will miss him a great deal. We loved to give each other a hard time, especially as kids. But he was one of the most sensitive and intuitive men I know. A great champion of the women in his life. He knew more than most men, the value women bring to all aspects of life. He was quick to laugh and acted on challenges rather than reacting. All of the beautiful things everyone has had to say means so much. Love to you Juli and Libby, John and Rob we are thinking of you. Grandma and Aunt Erin

I met Scott in 2017 when I joined the Just Energy board. I immediately recognized that he really was a remarkable leader, quiet, intelligent, attentive, thoughtful, strategic and tactical all while remaining cool, calm and extremely composed even in extremely difficult circumstances. People respected Scott and he connected easily with employees and people he dealt with across the board. His remarkable leadership occurred without swagger or self importance and his capability, humility and integrity spoke volumes and served to attract people to follow him. He cared for people and listened to their perspectives. It’s part of what made him such an impactful leader and he will certainly be missed!!
Our sincere condolences to Juli and all of his family.

Scott and I met back in 2002 when we both started retail electric providers in the newly deregulated Texas market. We fought many legislative and regulatory battles together winning some and losing others. He was the smart more reserved one that I could count on to explain anything to me, even for the 100th time! After we both sold our companies, we lost touch until 2020 when we called me to work with him on the Just Energy board. It was over the last 3 years that I got to work more closely with Scott. His humility and grace coupled with his integrity, his compassion and he abundance of positivity made him the great leader, the great man that he was.
THe last time we exchanged words, he remarked that while we have know each other for quite some time, neither of us was any OLDER. That was Scott, always upbeat!
My prayers go out to Juli and the rest of his family. May his memory be blessing. Rest in Peace my friend.

Scott’s life was the epitome of a life well lived. He was a mentor to countless people - not just professionally but in the way he publicly demonstrated his love and devotion to his family. He adored and cherished his children and bragged on them at every opportunity and he was absolutely revered by his Louisiana cousins. His wit, charm, and acumen will be missed by all who knew him, cherish his memory, and look forward to seeing him again.

I met Scott 15 and half years ago when I started at Just Energy. Over the years, Scott was a colleague, leader, mentor and friend to me, especially over the last 3.5 years. He was smart, generous, compassionate, optimistic and thoughtful in his approach to the business and more importantly, to dealing with people, particularly the employees at Just Energy. He also had a great sense of humour and there were many meals and drinks over the years where we laughed and laughed, despite whatever the situation happened to be at the time. I will miss him dearly.
My condolences to Juli and family.

My deepest condolences to Juli, Rob, John, and Elizabeth. Scott was my mentor. His guidance and teachings were instrumental over the years. His belief and vision for my future was there before I could see it.
A core memory, when I was 23, I was curious and had a hunger for knowledge. I would bombard Scott with questions about power, the power grid, ERCOT, transactions, wholesale and retail markets. He handed me a massive ERCOT binder, and instructed that I read it then come back with questions. I studied that binder. We spent weeks going through my questions. He was patient, thorough, knowledgeable, a wonderful teacher and paramount leader. His legacy continues in all of us that worked under his leadership. God rest his soul.

Scott is a man of high integrity and honor. Clearly. he was a great leader and so inspirational! People loved working with and for Scott. He was extremely calm and was always 3 steps ahead of us, but he never said anything until he led us to the solution. Because of his humility and demeanor, you could easily underestimate Scott. Then once you got to know him, you admired and respected him.
I was fortunate to see Scott and meet his lovely wife Julie a few weeks back. I was so impressed by how special they are. What a beautiful and wonderful couple. Scott had wonderful caretakers, but Julie was so amazing from what I saw.
Prayers and love to Julie and the family! He is so missed and loved!

Q: What 3 words best describe Robert and why?
A: Hilarious, Steadfast, & Genuine are three words which instantly came to mind when thinking about Scott. I'm sure I could triple that number with ease, but the bottom line is that Scott, Juli, and I began our early careers together at the Virginia State Corporation Commission in Richmond, VA, around 1986, and became fast friends. Typically, our banter included laughter and sharp wit, when appropriate, along with unwavering dedication to producing accurate and dependable results. Even outside of work, I would visit the young newlyweds at their Church Hill home finding Scott making repairs or home improvements and Juli preparing pesto or something equally enticing. My band even played for their wedding!
After moving back to upstate New York after a couple of years, to my surprise, who do I see newly hired as NYSEG's natural gas guru? That's right! Scott and Juli, now living in Ithaca, NY, begin expanding their wonderful family along with Scott's knowledge and expertise. Naturally, neither the family or career path slowed. One final time, we ended up at the same company for a brief period, only I joined him in Houston after a few years. Always welcoming and genuine, and of course, still as funny as ever! Friends of quality above quantity.....
In my heart, I feel that Scott will always be at his family's side. Talk with him, and even have a few chuckles together, for I believe that his spirit remains strong and steadfast in dedication to his family.
My prayers of comfort are with Juli, their children, and all of his loved ones, family, friends, and coworkers.
Rest easy, my friend.......Frank

Julie, Rob, Elizabeth and John,
We are so sad to hear of Scott's passing. What a great guy. While it is painful to know that Scott is gone, we have such fond memories of our time together in Nottingham Forest. All the times at kid's birthday parties, sleepovers, Friday night happy hours at the club, Meadow Wood events and how about those Harley Davidson days. We consider ourselves fortunate to have spent so much time with the Gahn family through those years. We hope as the pain subsides; you will reflect on a life well lived and smile at the fond memories.
With love,

Sending condolences to all of Scott’s family and friends for this loss. I met Scott early in my career at Just Energy and he immediately stood out to me as the type of colleague and leader I always admired and aspired to be - a brilliant mind, funny, thoughtful, analytical, and fair minded. His legacy and many accomplishments before and since have certainly borne that out. However what I most recall about him is his personal kindness, his interest in others, and that wry sense of humour that would peek its way out when he was unspooling a great story over a beer. I didn’t have the pleasure to connect with him in some time but I still think of him often. He’ll live on in the memories of others and in the impact he’s had on the world and the people around him - which in his case is more than most.

I had the privilege of last speaking with Scott while waiting for coffee in an empty office breakroom one early fall afternoon a few months back. He was always eager to hear and listen to our thoughts on various matters (in this case Covid and remote work) and the conversation soon enough turned into 20 minutes of impromptu 1:1 on other aspects related to the business. At the end, he asked my name and shook my hand and told me he' d surely remember me until next time. I genuinely believed him and felt very empowered after that conversation. Unfortunately we did not get another one after that.
That's the everlasting image of Scott that I will carry with me: he was a leader who would instill confidence, stability and a sense of overwhelming calmness but would also find a way with words to inspire others to follow his trail and strive to do better. RIP Scott.
