Obituary of Basem Mousa Khoury
Basem Khoury was born on August 5, 1946, in Jordan. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 77. He was a man of profound principle, celebrated for his honesty, hard work, and unwavering dedication to both his professional commitments and his loved ones.
Basem's journey began in Beirut, where he immersed himself in the English language and biblical studies. After graduating from the university in Lebanon, he taught English and bible studies for three years, shaping the minds and lives of many. In addition, he translated bible studies from English to Arabic for over 40 years.
He later dedicated two years of his career to USAID, followed by an impressive 25-year tenure at the American Embassy in Jordan. Basem was held in high regard throughout his service, earning love and respect from colleagues and commendations from his superiors for his outstanding performance and notable achievements. His dedication was further recognized through multiple awards from both the American Embassy and, later, from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he worked for a decade after his immigrating to the United States. His move to the U.S. was driven by a profound desire to provide a better life for his family, showcasing his enduring love and commitment to them once more.
In his personal life, Basem was the loving pillar of his family, survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Renee Bajjali, their sons Samer, Ashton, and Chris, and their daughter, Christina. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to friends and family in the United States and Jordan for their continuous support and love.
In Basem's spirit, please join us for a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. The Meal Of Mercy will be served from 12:00 noon- to 1:15 p.m. Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. George Orthodox Christian Church, 5311 Mercer St., Houston, TX.
The internment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX.
