Dearest Regina,
I am so deeply saddened to hear of Larry's passing. My heart is with you fully.
It was one of the great honors of my life as a painter to be able to meet you and Larry, and to be able to create something just for you and your extraordinary home.
Your Larry was as gracious and delightful as anyone I've ever met. The expansive circle of friends I saw surrounding him gave me a tiny glimpse into the influence for good and right he represented in all he did. He was truly a giant among men and an example of God's love in his being and in his work. He leaves a lasting heritage.
May the memories you hold dear bring you comfort and peace. May you feel God's love holding in your days and nights.
With all my love and deep condolences,
Eve Leonard

Heartfelt Condolences to Regina, Melvin, and the Extended Family of LJP.
Larry was truly the epitome of a Servant Leader; His presence uplifted all whom He came in contact with.
I will always remember his help in navigating an Educational roadblock for my daughter who was a student in
HISD many years ago when He was CEO of the Greater Houston Educational Excellence Coalition. His assistance was
invaluable. We will always remember His kindness and concern in this matter.
Rest well My Friend, Rest in Peace, Rest in Love!

I have often seen people who profess to want to make a city or community better, but either don't really mean it or are unable to do it. Larry "Laurence" Payne was the real deal. He was all about community, making lives better for people, caring about people and a whole lot less about himself.
Larry was a longtime TV talkshow host at my old place of work - Houston Community College Television. He was a mainstay of the department. We built our studio and sets around him and his guests. No one was more important to us than Larry.
My favorite guest of his was the brilliant sociologist Dr. Stephen Klineberg of Rice U. Larry would always say "we live in Stephen Klineberg's Houston," which meant Houston is an exquisitely diverse city that the nation will one day emulate. Houston is the future of America.
But that was just one guest. In more than 30 years, Larry saw and interviewed them all. His interests were broad and far-reaching. He was a visionary. But most of all, he was a passionately polite, concerned and well-intentioned man, a priest in secular clothing. He is sitting right beside God now, peppering him with a questions about ways to make the city and world a better place.

I was heartbroken by this news. I had the pleasure of knowing Larry through committees at Children at Risk and through the American Leadership Forum. Larry was gave me a very warm and heartfelt greeting and always made me feel like i was the most important person in the room to him at that moment when he spoke with me. I was always in awe not only by his servant leadership but also his authenticity. Larry truly did Gods work here on earth. His memory will always be a blessing to me.
