Bernice Syzdek, born August 30, 1939 in Houston, TX to Christine and William (Bill) Bashinski, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016, in Houston, TX. Bernice Syzdek was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Cleo Frank Syzdek; children, Terrie Mattern and husband Glen Mattern of Houston, TX., Melisa Janda and husband Gary Janda of Houston, TX. John Syzdek and wife Melissa Syzdek of Houston, TX., grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tad Kresta and wife Leta Kresta, Aiden Kresta, Grayson Kresta and Addison Kresta all of Houston, TX., Kristin Kresta of Austin, TX., Priscilla Kresta, Jadyn Munoz and Ava Munoz of Houston, TX., Melanie Janda, Gwendolyn Janda and Garrett Janda all of Houston, TX., Ashlyn Syzdek and Amber Syzdek all of Houston, TX. She is also survived by her siblings, Edmund and wife Connie Bashinski of Houston, TX., Bernadette Eheman of Houston, TX., Raphael Bashinski of Houston, TX., Janette Camp of Houston, TX., Deborah Thomas of Houston, TX., as well as lots of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her very much. Bernice was actively involved in Assumption Catholic Church. The activities included an active participation in the Altar Society and served a two-year term as president; member of the Parish Council, Choir and CCE teacher for many years and also worked the Summer Breeze Program. Bernice and Cleo also ran the poker booth during the church bazaar for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus 2917. A visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church, 901 Rose Lane, Houston, TX. The Rite of Committal will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery. Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Tad Kresta, Garrett Janda, Jimmy Syzdek, Eddie Syzdek Jr., Kenny Michalak and Scott Seibert. A reception will follow the interment at Assumption Catholic Church.
