Obituary of Shawki Nicola Salameh

Shawki Nicola Salameh was born March 31, 1931 in Ramallah, Palestine and welcomed home by our Heavenly Father on June 24, 2024. 

Shawki attended the Quaker Friends School in Ramallah and worked at the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. He later continued his education at the University of Connecticut studying music. He was a brilliant pianist and lit up any room with his playing. Shawki married Nina Ammar in 1970 and together made their new home in Houston, Texas with their three girls. 

Along with his musical talents, Shawki had the gift of a great sense of humor and desire to make everyone laugh. His kind smile and gentle spirit will be missed, but will remain seared in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Nina, his daughters Mimi (Mark) Bajalia, Muna (Michael) Saba, and Monica (Freddy) Sackllah, and grandchildren Juliana and Olivia Bajalia, Angeline and Christian Saba, and Essam, Yasmine and Elias Sackllah. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicola Salameh and Badia Khoury Salameh; his 8 siblings – Elias N. Salameh, Julia Salameh Ankar, Wadie N. Salameh, Adelle Salameh Zaglool, Alfred (Fuad) Salomon, Carlos (Shukri) N. Salomon, Salwa Salameh Morris, Fadwa Salameh (Mother Germana).  

A visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2024 followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at St. George Christian Orthodox Church, 5311 Mercer in Houston, Texas. Shawki will be laid to rest at Memorial Oaks cemetery.
