Obituary of Genevieve Esquivel Page
Genevieve Esquivel Page, born March 21, 1934, died peacefully on September 20, 2024, in Houston, Texas.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her son, Edward De Leon, her parents, Alberto Romero Esquivel and Maria Lasalde Esquivel, and her 12 siblings.
My mother's namesake is because of Nun Genevieve, who taught at Sacred Heart School. While pregnant with my mother, Nun Genevieve asked my grandmother if she would name her Genevieve. My grandmother was very active at Sacred Heart Church and knew the nuns and priests very well.
She is survived by her spouse, William K. Page, Sr., and her daughters, Elizabeth De Leon Howard & her spouse, Glenn Robert Howard, Genevieve Jaffe & her spouse, Gary Jaffe, Patricia Mangina, and Graciela De Leon. Her grandchildren are Gabriel C. Canales, Brian De Leon, Christopher Searcy, Laura Beth Li, and Stefanie Nicole Morgenstern, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Genevieve attended Sacred Heart Parochial from kindergarten to eighth grade, Falfurrias High School from 9th to 12th grade, and graduated from Falfurrias High School. My mother was the co-editor for the Falfurrias High School newspaper. She also completed some college courses. She taught catechism at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Onalaska, TX.
Our mother was an intelligent, wonderful loving peron and wife. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, and embroidering beautiful quilts. She also loved to travel and listen to music.
If Tears Could Build a Stairway
If tears could build a stairway and memories were a lane
I would walk right up to heaven
And bring you back again
No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knows why
My heart still aches with sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know
But now I know you want me
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times, Life still has much in store
Since you'll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today
A hallowed place within my heart Is where you'll always stay.
