Obituary of James Willie Taylor

James Willie Taylor, beloved husband, father, and Papaw, brother, and friend, passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the age of 90.

James was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Wright Taylor; mother, Mary Irene Brewer Taylor Greer; stepfather, Joe Glen Greer and his wife, Marcelle; brother, Melvin Taylor and his wife, Ann; sister-in-law, Karen Greer; and grandson, Rober Allen Taylor Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Betty Kainer Taylor; his children James Glen Taylor, Robert “Bobby” Allen Taylor and his wife, Karen, Cindy Eddleman, Joyce Basford and her husband, Brett, and Cheryl Free and her husband, Daryl; grandchildren Wesley Taylor, Whitney Taylor, Joshua Eddleman (Laurel), Stefanie Ceola and her husband, Tyler, Taylor Sciulli, Jace Basford, Brenna Basford, Fiona Free, and Nolan Free; as well as 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Lyn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

James was born in Navasota, Texas and graduated from Reagan High School in Houston in 1952.  He served the United States Army from 1960-1962 as a corporal.  James worked at Dresser from 1966-2000 as a machinist, lead man, foreman, superintendent, sales, and district sales manager.  He had a deep passion for the simple joys of life - golf, bowling, poker, shooting pool, and was an avid fisherman.  He also loved music - Country and Western and Rock n’ Roll which he had on his juke box that he would play for anyone that would listen. 

A visitation will be held form 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, St. Matthews the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9915 Hollister Road in Houston, Texas.  All are invited to a reception with the family following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, Texas 77087.

The family wishes to thank Carolyn Llorens and the caregivers at Carolyn’s Senior Lodge who so lovingly took care of James.

Forever in our hearts, James, you will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
